A trip to Castle Howard at Christmas has been a favourite of ours for some time. Tonight, we went for a sneak preview before it opens tomorrow.
The 2018 theme is the 12 Days of Christmas and you will not be disappointed. It never ceases to amaze how Castle Howard come up with such unique and detailed displays every year.
As you go through the house, each room focuses on a different line of the famous carol. There were also a number of different birds for the kids to spot, which together with the Christmas Trees and beautiful decorations, kept their attention.
The tree in the Great Hall is breathtaking and definitely Eliza’s favourite. It is an impressive 25ft with 4,000 baubles! Can you spot the pink glass swan?
Each room was phenomenal with something completely different, whilst still telling the story of the carol. The turquoise drawing room with a series of magnificent peacocks was Henry’s highlight.
The High South was amazing, all set for “The Twelfth Night Dinner” whilst the Crimson dining room looks very different to what the Mumbler dining room will on Christmas Day!
My favourite was the Long Gallery with the Lords a Leaping, Ladies Dancing, Drummers drumming and the most impressive Gold Rings. The music was lovely and this was the perfect finale to a lovely tour, perfect for getting everyone in the Christmas spirit.
An Audience with Father Christmas is sold out, however, he will also be making an appearance in Santa’s Courtyard Grotto every week in December. Timed tickets are available from the Ticket Office from 10.45am – 3.45pm, £8 per child. Includes a small gift.
Twilight Evenings – Visit on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of December and discover Castle Howard in a new light as night falls. Enjoy the House adorned by candlelight and the smell of burning log fires with live music and entertainment throughout the evening. We did this last year and the kids loved it!!
Twixmas Magic Shows – 27th December 2018 and 30th December 2018 at 11am and 1pm. Enjoy a high energy, interactive, fun-filled twixmas magic show with WonderPhil! We enjoyed this as well last year!
