As I daydream on my 40 mile trip to work at 7.15am (having showered, dressed, dried my hair, applied makeup, dressed my children, prepared breakfast, made lunch for my husband, put on a wash, cleaned school shoes, fed the cat, prepared nursery and school bags, defrosted tea, reminded husband to collect the kids and defrosted my car windscreen), I let myself think, maybe there’s another way. It’s a scary thought because we like security, we don’t like change and to be honest, many of us are stuck on a treadmill of life, earning a salary that can’t be ditched, trying to juggle everything but for what?
That dangerous thought, ‘maybe there’s another way’ had been making me think… a lot.
Up until September, my 16 year career was in the marketing world, working with global brands in market research. Sounds exciting and at times it was but this wasn’t for me anymore. Life changes when you have a family…. I had lost confidence in myself and didn’t really know what I even wanted.
One day during a hair appointment I got chatting….the questions the lady asked about whether I enjoyed my job were the catalyst for a total career change. I realised I wasn’t happy and since I couldn’t escape until my foils were off, I had to sit there and talk about it!
A month later, I had begun training in Beauty Therapy, something I had always loved and alongside my job and family, I decided to go for it, training at college two nights a week for 9 months and supplementing this with lots of additional specialist training, meant there wasn’t too much time to overthink this huge leap.
I had wobbles (how could I possibly be good enough, why am I throwing away my career?) but by focusing on the reason for the change and doing lots of research into the world of beauty, I got stuck in. I chatted to friends and family about what they liked and why and saw a gap for delivering treatments in the privacy and comfort of people’s homes. I began to understand beauty is personal; it is as much about how we feel as how we look. It is about how the person delivers the service as much as the treatment itself. People love being at home and life is busy so by creating an ‘AT HOME‘ beauty experience, I could see how a fortnightly manicure or an hours facial before the school run was going to work.
‘At Home Beauty’ is now my business, although it’s now my job, it never feels like work. I absolutely love the world of beauty, listening to clients, tailoring treatments to their needs, never compromising on quality or service. Life doesn’t feel like a compromise anymore, I am building a business alongside my family life at a pace I can control.
I am passionate about looking after my clients and that they trust me to deliver a professional, friendly service, source the safest, healthiest products that really do work. I have an extensive list of gorgeous treatments using some of the most popular and natural products on the market, including Bio Sculpture, Arbonne and Skinny Tan.
