A Christmas Masquerade (Saturday 16th November – Sunday 5th January)
This year, Castle Howard prepares for a grand masked ball inspired by the Venetian Carnival to be held in the Long Gallery spectacularly adorned as the Grand Canal – the bridges are a great place for a family photo opportunity! It certainly does not disappoint!
The house looked beautiful with magnificent decorations throughout. The upside down Christmas tree certainly gave us something to think about – I wonder if we could do that?!
Amongst the fabulous decorations and beautiful costumes which Eliza absolutely loved, you will find four mischievous characters – Harlequin, Colombine, Pierrot and Pulcinello.
Some days you will see them about the house rehearsing the entertainment they will perform. They were present tonight and the kids loved them! They were so much fun and kept popping up throughout the house, making for a really fun visit. Harlequin was very amusing and a definite hit with Henry and Eliza!
The magnificent tree in the Great Hall is breathtaking and as always gives the “wow” factor. It is an impressive 25ft with 4,000 baubles!
As always the attention to detail is incredible and the house looks simply stunning. There is something to delight all ages and generations. Great to tie in a visit to the house with a play in the grounds and of course, Skelf Island.
We loved it and it is a great start to Christmas – we went home playing carols in the car!
An Audience with Father Christmas is sold out, however, he will also be making an appearance in Santa’s Courtyard Grotto every weekend in December. Timed tickets are available from the Ticket Office from 10.45am – 3.45pm, £8 per child (plus usual admission for non-members). Includes a small gift.
Twilight Evenings – Visit on Saturday 30th November, 7th, 14th & 21st December and discover Castle Howard in a new light as night falls. Enjoy the House adorned by candlelight and the smell of burning log fires with live music and entertainment throughout the evening. We did this 2 years ago and the kids loved it!!
