World Book Day celebrations will be taking place at Malton and Pickering libraries in the form of a special session of story-telling activities with children’s author Sarah Coyle. She will be introducing her fantastic picture book “The Biggest Story” by leading an interactive story-time session as well as answering questions.

Sarah’s book is an inclusive story featuring animals, dinosaurs and a little boy called Errol who wants someone to tell him a story, but his Mum is too busy doing grown-up stuff. Undeterred Errol gathers a host of different animal friends who inspire him to tell his own…. very… BIG… story!

During their visit the children also be welcomed to the library by its friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who can’t wait to introduce them to their children’s section and invite them to participate in a simple craft activity.

We recommend visitors attend the full 90- minute session so the children can make the most of all the activities we have planned, but if that is not practically possible we are happy for people to drop-in for as long as they wish.

*The Biggest Story is perfect for reluctant readers; it builds children’s confidence to tell their own stories and celebrates the joy of shared story-telling. The end papers also contain a toolkit for teachers and parents about how to encourage children to have fun with their own stories and it supports the National Literacy Trust’s Parents as Partners Campaign.

Copies of the book will be available to borrow from the library or to purchase at £6.99 (cash only). Copies of the book are also available to pre-order on-line at a discounted price.
