The building has been meticulously restored using traditional materials and methods. The new use for the water mill is generating hydro-electricity by two Archimedes Screw turbines and a restored water wheel. Together they can generate enough electricity for up to 120 average houses.
The mill hosts visits by primary school pupils to learn about renewable energy, the traditional uses of the building and to participate in forest school activities on the small wooded island in the River Derwent on which the mill stands.
