Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton le Hole is gearing up for a variety of activity days and events over the next few months. If you’re looking for things to entertain the kids during the May half term holidays, or just in search of new things to do nearby on a well-earned day off, this competition was made for you!
There’s lots to enjoy at the Museum year-round, with a variety of buildings and six acres to explore, you can find out how people have lived, worked and played in Ryedale from the Iron Age to the 1950s. Our activity and event days are great fun too – offering a more interactive visit and bringing history to life.

Weapons Through the Ages – with The Time Bandits
Tuesday 22 May, 10am-5pm
A living history display of edged weapons covering a time period from the Bronze Age to the early 20th Century. You can ask questions, watch demonstrations, handle some of the artefacts and try on period clothing to ensure you look the part!
Multi-period History Camp
Sunday 27 & Monday 28 May, 10am-5pm
Step back in time to experience the sights, sounds and smells of everyday life in bygone times with our excellent re-enactment group. You can learn about historic crafts (including leather-working, wood-working, naalbinding and chainmail making), the skills needed to survive day to day and see what’s cooking for supper! The camp inhabitants will also be showing off their archery skills at 12 noon.
Ladies North West Clog Dancers
Sunday 27 May, 3pm
Fiddlesticks North West Clog Dancers are coming to North Yorkshire to celebrate their 35th anniversary. The group will be dancing their way through the Museum grounds from 3pm and invite you to come and witness this traditional performance, learn about the history behind the groups and perhaps have a go at some dances!
When it’s time for the summer holidays, Tractor & Engine Day on Sunday 29 July offers a great day out for motor enthusiasts and families alike. There will be a variety of tractors, engines and agricultural implements on show, with lots of family fun on offer. Countryside Crafts Weekend runs over Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 August. See a variety of rural crafts in action – from basket weaving to blacksmithing, wood turning to chainmail making – with a chance to have a go at some yourself.
