Under 18’s Go Free!
May half-term will soon be upon us and like any working parent, we’re all trying to organise childcare around work, as well as taking some holiday to spend time with the children and make plans for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Well make sure that you’ve got the Yorkshire racing fixtures in your calendar! Not only do under 18’s go free but a day at the races can be a relatively cheap day out for parents or you can even suggest it to the grandparents as suitable entertainment.
This half-term there are family themed fixtures at Catterick and Redcar. Catterick starts proceedings with their Spring Saturday on 28th May where there will be free children’s entertainment in the Course Enclosure, including a climbing wall. Racing returns to Catterick 6 days later as they hold their Jubilee Raceday on Friday 3rd June. Catterick have partnered with a local school to organise an on-course street party and in addition there will be an inflatable Helter Skelter in the Course Enclosure. Tickets are from £5 per person.
Redcar’s Zetland Gold Cup Family Day takes place on Thursday 2nd June and in addition to the races, there is free children’s entertainment to celebrate the jubilee, including ‘Prince and Princess School’ where children can learn to be Royalty for the day. Course Enclosure tickets start from £6 in advance.
Pack a jubilee picnic and take it along with you (Course Enclosure side only), alternatively there will be food and drink outlets available around the site and of course an ice-cream van!
In addition to these family themed days, there are race meetings at Thirsk, Ripon and Doncaster over the half-term holidays.
Looking ahead to Father’s Day on Sunday 12th June, a trip to Doncaster for their Lakeside Village Dinocaster Racecourse Family Fun Day is a must! Look out for the T Rex, Raptor, Triceratops and Spinosaurus roaming around the racecourse, plus you can register to be a trainee ranger and watch eggs hatch!
