Schools Ryedale and Thirsk

Independent

The schools in the Ryedale and Thirsk area generally work to a catchment area. If you contact your local school directly they will be able to tell you if you are within their catchment area, they will also be able to give you details of any open days or their policy for visiting the school.

You may also want to read the school’s most recent OFSTED report to help you make your decision. Here

You may visit and or apply for a place at any school, however the admissions policy will outline who has priority (children with a statement of educational special needs, those with siblings in the school and those within the catchment etc) See your chosen schools website for full details.

Fyling Hall School is a small, non-selective, independent school with a big heart, over-looking Robin Hood’s Bay. We are a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 4 to 18 with a nurturing family-like atmosphere and small class sizes (average 1:7 staff to student ration) that allows each individual to thrive. Fyling Hall pupils nearly always exceed predicted grades and baseline scores. We offer affordable fees, an individulised approach to learning and a dedicated Learning Support depart, that insures bespoke support to meet the needs of pupils. With onsite stables, we offer optional horse-riding during sports lessons.

Junior School students benefit from weekly forest school, swimming, specialist senior school teachers, use of all senior school facilities and a seamless transition to Senior School. Senior school students benefit from small class sizes, regular field-trips and enrichment activities, work experience, a sixth form centre and a personal approach to subject options. We offer GCSEs, A-Levels, EPQ, practical/ vocational performing arts qualifications, ceramics and photography to A-Level.

“The pupils’ personal development is outstanding; from the earliest age they are willing to take on responsibility. Older pupils look after younger ones and the whole school community works as a large family.” (ISI Inspection)

Ampleforth College

Ampleforth is more than just a school. We are proud of our students’ successes. They do well academically, excel on the games field, make inspiring music and stretch themselves in many different ways through the enormous variety of activities on offer in our beautiful valley and beyond. We make sure that they develop and explore their innate talents and developing interests.
However, we are interested in more than worldly success. The overlap between monastery and school at Ampleforth gives an education that goes beyond academic excellence and all their other achievements. An Ampleforth education provides the girls and boys with a spiritual compass for life. The moral principles that the boys and girls develop here act as spiritual bearings to guide them through adult life in an increasingly secular world filled with moral confusion.
