10am – 12pm Wednesday at Malton Castle Garden
Forest School sessions for parents and carers with young children
Join us at Little Woodland Explorers throughout the seasons at Malton Castle Garden. This is a relaxed free flow community space in the centre of town. The weekly sessions exist to heighten seasonal awareness amongst parents and carers with young children, develop outdoor confidence and forge friendships.
Our forest school activities include nature walks where we observe wildlife in their natural habitats and hunt for seasonal treasures. Our activities include, painting using our traditional or mud based paints with a variety of natural handmade brushes. We make our own natural dyes to print using the leaves, fruits and flowers, we find in the garden. Other activities include journey sticks, den building, making rivers and lakes in the muddy area. We cook over open fires and our wild garlic pesto pasta is a sensation. We spend time in the listening wigwam for traditional nature stories or we read in the reading den. Whittling provides a fun pastime for both adults and children and encourages good concentration skills. For the more active there are always our handcrafted hobby horses that will take any willing rider over the finish line.
We wind up each session with a hot drink, the Kelly Kettle is boiled and hot chocolate is served with marshmallows often thrown in for good measure.
Sessions run all year round including most school holidays. Read the Mumbler review HERE
