This was our first time doing an escape room in person. We had done an escape room on Zoom during lockdown. Beverley Breakout Escape Rooms is within easy drive of Ryedale.
They’re in Beverley town centre next to the Butchers Row car park (between the Crafty Cafe and shop) so easy to get to with plenty of parking nearby. They opened just before Covid struck so then had to close but are back open and in full swing now. They have 4 rooms to play – The Great Toy Escape which Hull & East Riding Mumbler tried and very much enjoyed, a boxing themed room The Main Event for older children and adults and Jewel Pursuit which is aimed at adults. Plus The Goblins of Toadsmead which is a Harry Pottter themed room.
The staff were super helpful and welcoming, owner Fran put us all at ease. The kids, especially Henry, were really excited. Once we got into our room (you can come out at any time and are not locked in!) we had to find clues, link different objects and solve lots of puzzles, working our way through a series of magic themed rooms and opening a series of locked cupboards and doors to get further through the game. Our mission was to stop the magic fading! It was really good fun for the children but just as much for the adults, it certainly wasn’t simple and we had to all work together. We did get stuck a few times and Fran sent in clues to help. Did we do it within the hour…….?
We only just did it in time!! With seconds to spare we replaced the emerald and stopped the magic fading, phew! We all came out on such a high and genuinely had the best time. There were so many different clues and puzzles to do and the way through game was very clever. We all worked together and were kept thoroughly engaged throughout. As my children are getting older I’m finding it hard to find things we all want to do, this was perfect and I think we will definitely be back to do The Great Toy Escape….
I’d say that this room is ideal for ages 7+. Eliza, 7, enjoyed looking for clues but Henry, 9 definitely got the most out of trying to crack the clues. He certainly kept us right! I’d definitely recommend it as a fun, unique, family activity.
This was a really fun family outing for all of us especially the children who found it really fun we would recommend this set of escape rooms to all families.
