North Yorkshire Council’s Scarborough Sparkle 2024 is a magical Christmas festival at Scarborough Open Air Theatre, running from November 29 to December 1. The event kicks off with an illuminated lantern parade on Friday at 5:30 PM which creates a magical atmosphere as it winds through Peasholm Park before Sparkle is officially opened at 6pm.
At the Open Air Theatre visitors can explore over 50 stalls offering crafts, gifts, and festive treats, perfect for early Christmas shopping. Food and drink stalls will provide seasonal delights and the tipi bar offers a cozy spot to relax.
There’s a stage hosted by This is the Coast Radio featuring performances from local choirs and musicians, a snow machine, Christmas tree, Santa sleigh, and appearances by some familiar characters – the Grinch, Elsa, Anna, and Olaf. The popular Back Chat Brass Band will entertain visitors on Saturday. And there’ll be appearances by some amazing interactive animated performers, including the stunning illuminated ghost caribou on the Saturday with the delightful snow lion appearing on Sunday afternoon.
Rides and attractions from event sponsors O’Brien’s Fun Fairs include a giant Ferris wheel, teacups ride, bungee trampolines, ghost train, fun house, inflatable slide, swings, and hook a duck.
A free bus service will operate on Saturday and Sunday. Scarborough Sparkle is free to attend.

Scampston’s Annual Christmas Charity Fair – Sat 23 Nov 2024 – Sun 24 Nov 2024 10am – 4pm – FREE ENTRY. 15th November to 22nd December 2024 – spectacular illuminated art installations to the town.
Throughout, St Mary’s historic church exterior will be illuminated. The church is situated at the top of Castle Road and has an amazing view of Scarborough South Bay. Also on 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 30th November & 1st December there will be a unique collection of three distinct installations by Scarborough-based creators Animated Objects, Adrian Riley and Astro Dog. Booking is essential.
From 1st – 24th December the live advent calendar will take place where windows across streets and neighbourhoods in Scarborough will be illuminated with festive creations.
Between 5th – 14th December, The Aquarium of Light transforms the bandstand at the beautiful Sun Court at the Scarborough Spa into a community light installation with themes from the sea.
New to Scarborough Lights 2024, South Cliff Fire Garden is a must-see! From 18th – 22nd December, see Scarborough’s Victorian Rose Garden transform into an enchanting display of fire and light. This is a ticketed event and booking is essential!
