Now there’s a new way to take a look into the past as you explore North Yorkshire’s County Town, guided by the ‘Discover Northallerton’ app in the palm of your hand.
Discover more about the heritage of Northallerton and uncover hidden stories of fascinating people, places and events that shaped this historic market town through the centuries.
With 2 trails, there is loads of fun to be had!
‘Autumnfest trail with the Mowbrees’ enjoying the sights as we watered Tinker Mowbree’s veggie patch near the phone box, threw conkers in Applegarth Park, searched for treats hiding in pumpkins in Zetland Street, and danced with the twins, Violet and Spike Mowbree, by the pedestrian crossing!
‘Portals into the Past’ entitles the second trail, which is packed with information about the history of the town and we had chance to have a little look, but would love to return another day to take in the details of the trail. Here you can uncover Northallerton’s hidden stories of fascinating people, places and events, including the Town Hall and Shambles, the Rutson Hospital, Register House, and the original site of Northallerton Grammar School before it moved to Grammar School Lane and then became Northallerton College. This would be a great trail for schools to use as part of a local history project.

The Hidden Garden – Friday 1 November 2024
A magical tale of a blooming unlikely friendship!
Hidden amongst the concrete high-rises and the redbrick buildings is something pretty unexpected: a place bursting with colour, where flowers, fruits and vegetables come to life in every corner growing up walls, twisting around handrails and planted in unusual objects.
A curious child discovers this hidden garden, and meets the man who’s created his own little paradise to brighten up the grey and feed those for whom hunger is never far away.
Join this unlikely duo through the seasons and see the stage transform magically before your very eyes as the garden grows. Be part of the bond that sprouts when the garden comes under threat, and the two companions wonder what will happen to their sanctuary.
The show is brought to life with clever mechanics, plants and puppetry. There’ll also be a chance to go onto the set to see how it works, meet the actors and have a go at some planting after the performance!

Get ready for a Spooky Adventure like no other at William’s Den, 25th to 30th October 2024. Join us for our Halloween event Trick or Treat Street this October, for sweet treats and spinetingling surprises.
Trick or Treat Street is a one-of-a-kind family friendly interactive Halloween experience which combines traditional trick or treating with an engaging murder mystery storyline. Meet 8 spooky yet friendly characters, collect sweets and listen to their tales to crack the case! Afterwards venture into Denville Village Square for food, drink, Halloween themed games and pumpkin picking*.
Following the success of our 2023 mystery, we’re back with a brand-new adventure that will captivate children under 12 and make Halloween unforgettable. In the shadows of Trick or Treat Street, a new mystery has emerged. Strange things are happening and a series of spooky characters have appeared, each with their own story to tell. It’s up to our young detectives to unravel the clues and discover the identity of this year’s mischievous suspect! Once you’ve walked down Trick or Treat Street, venture to “Denville” village square to discover who the culprit from Trick or Treat Street’s mystery is and enjoy food, drink and the chance to pick your own pumpkin to carve music and excitement.
