Experience the magic trees this October half term.
Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November 2019 (closed Monday)
Tree trail: There’s an autumnal nip in the air, wrap up warm and follow the spotter trail through the gardens on any of the days throughout the week.
Leafy artrageous: Make a leafy bird’s nest from natural materials with artrageous on Sunday (27 October) and Thursday in the Hayloft.*
Bushcraft day: Take part in the bushcraft activities with Yorkshire Dales Bushcraft on Tuesday.**
Storytelling: Follow Apple Pip on his adventures – join Eden from Stories Alive! on a story promenade through the gardens on Wednesday.
Broomstick making: Work with witches and wizards of all sizes in the American Garden to create broomsticks from some of the magical trees on Wednesday.**
(Nearly) naked tree walk: Join the garden team as they take you on a trail of discovery on Thursday and Friday. Meander through the estate, learn more about how the changing seasons impact on the trees and uncover the beauty of those which are nearly naked at this time of year.

If you are feeling brave this half term, why not venture over to Burton Agnes Hall and take part in their spooky woodland trail?
Every Halloween, fearless visitors are welcomed to an eerie hunt round the Hall’s atmospheric woodland, where clues are hidden amidst dramatic and creative spooky Halloween scenes, with fishing skeletons and much more new for 2019! Once the entire puzzle has been solved, a treat awaits in the Gift Shop.
After the thrill of the spooky woodland trail, visitors can relax in the comfort of the courtyard and enjoy homemade meals, light bites and indulgent treats in the café, while the courtyard shops will be brimming with original gifts and seasonal and Yorkshire-made produce. Visitors can also choose from a range of home grown plants, propagated from the gardens.
The spooky Halloween woodland trail runs from 26th October to 3rd November and is designed for all the family to enjoy. There is no extra charge for the trail: admission is included in the normal Gardens price and is free for Burton Agnes Hall members.

Lantern walks at dusk and first dark, aimed at little ones or those of all ages who would rather not be scared witless, but want to enjoy a more seasonal experience instead.
Arrive to the Northwood kitchen and then be shown to the Autumn tent and have a free glass of alcoholic or non alcoholic punch. after a short storytelling from Professor Howlands collection, be taken on the lantern walk. Approximate total time 1 hour. Afterwards enjoy the fairy museum and relax in the Northwood kitchen bar.
Very limited sessions with a maximum of 40 per session. Lanterns for the walk, available to buy or borrow. Come dressed for the season and weather with appropriate footwear. Please be on time for your session and arrive in good time as we cannot delay the starts.

Join acclaimed children’s writer and illustrator Nick Sharratt and draw along with him! He’ll be showing you how to sketch favourite characters like Tracy Beaker and Timothy Pope, sharing ways of creating fantastic creatures like dragons and unicorns, and giving loads of top tips. And to celebrate his latest book ‘Nice Work for the Cat and the King’ everything will have a special ‘royal’ twist!
Nick has illustrated close to 260 books. He’s worked with authors including Julia Donaldson, Michael Rosen and Kes Gray, and his books include You Choose, Shark in the Park and Pants. The Mile is a farmshop, gift shop and campsite in Pocklington with a great cafe, Smile Cafe. For younger children under five, there’s a lovely indoor soft play area within the cafe plus an outdoor play area. There is also a quieter seating area in the farm shop for older children and families.
This October Half Term 2019 paint a spooky pot! Pottery painting available in the cafe daily 26th October to 30th October. Paints are acrylic so can be taken away that day. Pop in for lunch, a snack, a play and some painting!

By popular demand, we’ll be welcoming back Wizard Wooo for a night of Creepy Crawlies fun! Look forward to an evening of ghostly trails, spooky games and Halloween excitement!
Wizard Wooooo will be leading his interactive spooky (but not too scary!) trail for the whole of the family so please dress for outdoors and bring a torch.
