Whitby Abbey has loads going on this October Half Term, 23rd October to 31st October 2021.
During the day, there is “The Wizards of Once Halloween Quest at Whitby Abbey”
10am – 5pm
Head to Whitby Abbey for a fantastical day out this Halloween half-term. Explore the abbey on our brand-new adventure trail inspired by Cressida Cowell’s bestselling Wizards of Once series. Will you find the ingredients for the Spell to get rid of Witches and uncover the location of the Cup of Second Chances? Come along in frightful fancy dress to enter our competition and maybe win a prize. It’s going to be a really wizard day out! More details here
By night, the Abbey will be Illuminated and watch out for the Victorian gothic characters!
6pm – 9pm
Cast light on a dark history this Halloween! See Bram Stoker’s inspiration in a new light as Whitby Abbey is bathed in dramatic illuminations once again. Have your camera at the ready as you explore the gothic splendour of the ruins lit up with all the colours of the rainbow.
Join us as we celebrate the season of all things supernatural. Seek out our Victorian characters as they try to deal with a force beyond their control that has been unleashed on Whitby.
What is it? Can it be reasoned with? What does it want? Can you help our characters stop it before it takes over the Abbey and begins its reign of terror?
Along with fantastic performances and incredible illuminations, you can also enjoy a range of delicious food and drink. Tuck into locally-sourced fish and chips from Fuscos or grab a burger and sausage sandwich made with local meats. For pudding, head over to the fire pits for toasted marshmallows and stay hydrated by popping to the trailer bar, for a hot gin, hot chocolate or hot mead!
Please be aware the abbey closes for general admission at 5pm and will re-open at 6pm for Illuminated Abbey.
6.15pm – 7.30pm
Become a seeker of knowledge; meet the Scientist, the Hunter, the Zealot, the Lost Soul & the Stranger. Follow the Wraiths as they guide you around the ruins – will you heed their warnings and who is the Stranger?
Repeated at 7.45pm – 9.00pm
The abbey will be lit up with illuminations all evening and food and drink will be available throughout.
