What a lovely morning we had at Vanessa’s Mini Musicians class. On Thursdays, this is held at Westow Cricket Club, a great venue.
We all introduced ourselves, including the Mummies, Grannies and carers. I’ve never been to a class where I’ve been asked my name, always just Eliza’s mum so that was nice.
The class is all about music, singing, musical instruments and movement. I am very ‘unmusical’ but I loved the laying of the foundations for future music lessons. Even in the first session, Vanessa introduced loud and quiet sounds as well as fast and slow tempos as well as “counting in” with the use of a variety of different nursery rhymes. We sang and played along to all the old favourites, including marching along to the Grand Old Duke of York at various different speeds.
Songs that involve counting on fingers are also an important foundation for those who would like to learn the piano. Therefore, we sang 5 Speckled Frogs, 5 Little Teddy Bears Jumping on the Bed and the Days of the Week songs. It became very apparent why I can’t play the piano!
The song that appeared to be everyone’s favourite was the “Dingly Dangly Scarecrow”.
Eliza loved it and has been singing the songs all day. We really enjoyed it. What’s more it’s pay as you go so you don’t have to sign up to a term, which is great for those who find themselves with a bit of time on a Tuesday or Thursday. It is also very nice to have something this side of Malton. Vanessa is hoping to run more classes in the area.
