This year’s Ryedale Environment Week has been organised to coincide with a national series of events – The Great Big Green Week, which runs from the 18th to the 26th September.
The Ryedale Ecofair will take place on Saturday 18th September, 10.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m. at the Pickering Memorial Hall.
Local environmental groups from around Ryedale will be present, together with stalls from over 20 other organisations having an environmental theme. The Ecofair will be complemented by a series of live virtual events on Zoom throughout the week, providing those who join inspiration and practical advice on steps we can all take to be greener. Diet, sustainable transport, energy and wildlife friendly gardening will be among the topics covered, as well as an update on progress with tackling the climate emergency. One of the highlights of the week is likely to be the talk by Jen Gale (7 p.m. on Monday 20th September) on “green parenting”.
Founder of Sustainable(ish), Jen is a renowned author on sustainability issues, and has attracted a large following from her approach on showing how taking steps towards living a more sustainable life is simple and within everyone’s reach. Jen recognises that adding ‘being green’ to the never-ending to-do lists that parents have might feel like a huge challenge, but will share easy, do-able ideas and suggestions to pick and choose from, try out and adapt.
