Join Be Amazing Arts at The Milton Rooms, Malton for an afternoon of creativity working with some of the best professional poets and artists in the industry.
2.15-3.00pm | Animal Inspirations | 6-10 years | with Greg Genre
A fun, dynamic and hands-on workshop working with the theme of ‘funky animals’ to create soundscapes with words! We will use descriptive language, alliteration and onomatopoeia to craft kennings and limerick style poems about your favourite feathery or furry friends!
3.15pm-4.15pm | Who we are | 11-18 years | with Gill Lambert
Places, sounds, brand names, media, food — this workshop will look at the things which shape our identity, the things that make us who we are. We’ll look at published poems and have a go at writing some and even performing some!
You’ll discuss, chat and write and find out what makes us who we are.
4.30-5.30pm | Rap for a change | 11-18 years | with Greg Genre
Delve into the art and craft of writing and performing rap poetry in a fun, creative and inspiring environment. Rap is an alternative way to teach literacy, poetic techniques and vocabulary. Join Greg in a workshop focused on rapping for positive change in the world. Greg will showcase a number of his spoken word songs on themes such as climate change and animal rights and teach you strategies to formulate your own rapped verses focused on the positive changes you want to see on our planet.
5.45-6.45pm | Express Yourself! | 11-18 years | with Elizabeth Godber
This poetry workshop will explore how to use poetry to write about your own experiences. The session will start with found-language poetry games (such as rolling dice to select page numbers in books and then creating spoken word poems out of the words chosen), before moving onto writing poems about your own life! This workshop will cover numerous poetic techniques as well as focusing on self expression!
7.15-7.45pm | SLAM Performance | 11-18 years
A great opportunity for our young poets and spoken word artists to try out their brand new material for each other, their families and our professional poets!
