The Chinese New Year, Friday 16th February 2018, marks the beginning of the Chinese calendar and has celebrations taking place all over the world, usually lasting around fifteen days. In Chinese astrology, each year is related to a Chinese Zodiac animal based on a twelve-year cycle with different animals symbolising each of the years. This year is Year of the Dog and we are celebrating all year long at Castle Howard!
With beautiful rolling lawns, extensive woodland and lakeside walks Castle Howard is one of the best dog friendly gardens in North Yorkshire. Each month we will introduce you to one of the beloved staff dogs, who will share their favourite part of the Estate with you, starting with Blodwyn, the Head of Operation’s Cairn Terrier for February.
We would love to see which part of the Estate our visitor’s dogs enjoy the most. Take part in our Dog of the Month competition by sharing photos on social media of your canine friends at Castle Howard (using #dogsatcastlehoward). A winner will be announced at the end of each month and entered into the end of year draw to win some doggy themed Castle Howard gifts.
Join us on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August as we host a unique day out for families and their dogs. We will have an exciting array of activities to take part in, including a fun agility course and an adorable circus. A chance for your dogs to socialise whilst you browse the stalls selling the latest dog themed treats, including the new and popular dog ice cream. Whether or not you have a dog, this event is sure to be the perfect family day out.
Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating areas at our cafes and water bowls are provided. From February 2018 dogs are also welcome in our Courtyard Cafe. We ask visitors to keep dogs on their leads at all times. Free bones are also provided from the Farm Shop, subject to availability.
We look forward to seeing you and your canine friend soon!
