Didi Rugby Review – Friday 5th October, Westow Cricket Club
Minis Class
Twelve toddlers, each armed with a mini rugby ball, running around Westow cricket Pavilion, sounds like the potential for mayhem! However, at this Didi rugby class, the energy and enthusiasm of the mixed group of children was channelled into fun and engaging exercises and activities.
Emma who runs the class was very welcoming and had the youngsters listening to her from the very beginning which started with a stretch and quickly moved onto ball rolling, throwing and yes kicking! An important lesson in how to score a try was next on the agenda and this proved to be the basis of most activities, which was great as it gave the children something to aim for and was a clear indication of when they had completed their task.
As you would expect this was an energetic class but the girls and boys could take part at their own pace. In line with early years learning, colour spotting was introduced as a game and even a tidying up exercise was completed well – I will definitely attempt this one at home!
The 40 minute class finished with an obstacle course which introduced some new skills such as balancing and finished with a crawl through a tunnel, which mesmerised the children! This was a taster class but we will definitely be signing up for the sessions once they get going as my son really enjoyed it and it tired him out! There is another taster session on Friday 19th October and the course starts on Friday 9th November.
A little mention for the venue too, Westow Cricket Pavilion is a new building which was ideal for this sort of class and it is lovely to have something this side of Malton and out of town in a pretty rural setting.
This review was kindly written by a lovely Mum, local to the area, who wanted to share her and her son’s experiences of the taster session.
