You will receive a very warm welcome from Naomi before being packed off with irresistible treats, the majority of which are sourced locally.
This community hub is situated opposite the car park and toilets so you can perhaps buy a coffee, soft drink or delicious snack before you embark on the beautiful daffodil walk or wait until you return. The coffee is delicious, sourced from Roost in Malton. The chocolate brownies (homemade by Dan the Chef) got a 11/10 from my husband and the pulled pork pie is the best I have ever tasted (Original Baker, Malton). They also have homemade soups, panini and other pastry snacks.
Naomi has thought of everything, they have an enclosed seating area outside where you can enjoy your drink and cake and the kids are secure from the road.
If you are visiting the store on the way home, you can get anything you need including your evening meal – Italian, Mexican, Chinese or a traditional homemade ready meal?! There is a great selection of gifts including a delicious daffodil gingerbread man and or your favourite tipple!
The walk itself starts opposite and takes you on our favourite walk! Farndale Daffodil Walk is beautiful and well worth a visit. Wild daffodils planted by the monks of Rievaulx come out to amaze at this time of year.
We last did it a couple of years ago and experienced sunshine, wind and snow with beautiful daffodils – dress for all eventualities!
It is a circular walk but if you had very little legs with you could do there and back along the banks of the River Dove. There are plenty of places for a rest and a picnic!
From the car park follow the signs “Public path to High Mill” and go over the bridge turning left to follow the River Dove on a compacted stone path (subject to the weather but they have been maintaining the path this winter) suitable for all terrain pushchairs with wide enough gates. Lovely flat walk with the river, daffodils and lambs playing in the fields.
After 1.4miles, you come to High Mill. High Mill is home to the Daffy Cafe with lovely selection of hot drinks, bacon sandwiches, cakes and ice creams. Nice garden with small play area to enjoy the drinks and snacks.
After the cafe, you can take a grass footpath and not suitable for pushchairs where you can continue to Cow Bank or Hazel House. Alternatively, you can follow the road to the church for another display.
You can follow the stone path or just before the path enters the trees to return to the river, you can bear left up the hill to take the “high route” back. Keep following the footpath signs and closing the gates as you go. You will walk through sheep fields and through the farm yard before returning to the bridge over the River Dove (where you turned left at the beginning) to the Low Mill car park and Farndale Store with Naomi at the ready to provide a well needed snack!
Here are some photos from when we went (note the daffodils are yet to bloom in 2024!)
Valley of the Daffodil and the lovely Farndale Store is a must visit for 2024!
