On Monday, we visited Wolds Way Lavender. I was looking for something where we could take Granny for lunch and enjoy some of the children’s fun as it was Henry’s birthday. It was the perfect location! The car park is not miles away so perfect for Granny Mumbler. We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the cafe then headed outside. Granny came at her own speed, stopping for a sit every so often, enjoying the fragrant lavender whilst still being able to see Henry (6) and Eliza (3) running along.
We had a great game of Footgolf (two in fact), Henry won both and as a competitive person, I am not one to give in! We loved it, Henry and I played properly whilst Eliza still played, albeit with a few of her own rules! Great for all ages… 9 holes is the perfect length and great fun.
Counting the giants footprints to the Timber Trail was the next request – Henry loves a quiz and here was no different, insisting we completed the one on the map. The dinosaur sculptures had also been spotted and he was keen to get a bit closer. The Timber Trail is great, they loved it and a lovely place where adults can sit and watch them just get on with playing. The sand pit and the mud kitchen are nearby so you can set up base.
I gave them a taste for giant games in the form of Connect 4 – after a competitive best of 5 series, they were hooked and it was into the maze we went. There are loads of games here as well as the actual maze to conquer. I wasn’t sure I could teach them Nine Mens Morris when I didn’t know the rules so we had a go on the Quoits which we all thoroughly enjoyed. More Connect 4, a quick limbo and then it was onto Chess! Supposedly Henry has played with his cousins and loved it…. We set up and I directed operations while they “played”….a draw, partly because ice creams were calling and I couldn’t set up an attack to bring about a winner without causing a melt down between the two!
We made our way out of the maze and headed back to the cafe for ice cream – here we located Granny, who’d had a lovely time without having to walk to far. There are Nature Walks too for those who are more adventurous.
We decided to miss the miniature train this year but it will have to wait for the next visit. There are some lovely nature walks with the most amazing insects, bees, butterflies etc. We saw some great butterflies on the buddleia near the gate – my children are a bit obsessed with them so that was amazing in their book – peacock, red admiral, small tortoiseshell and a cabbage were all spotted!
We had a great day, all ages thoroughly enjoyed it. Granny thought it was a great place to visit for lunch and play with grandchildren. Highly recommend as a place to visit with grandparents. #morethanjustalavenderfarm
