We have had an amazing stay in Beadnell at the Beadnell Bay Caravan Park this week. This is beautifully located behind the sand dunes. We were lucky with the weather all week and this allowed us to enjoy what this beautiful coastline had to offer.
An absolute highlight for all the family was Coasteering with KA Adventures. What a great team who ooze enthusiasm. Our coasteering adventure took us to Howick with 3 instructors. The team were split into a smaller group with one instructor and the rest with two instructors. We were all in the larger group with Johnny and Becky. Henry was so excited whilst Eliza was a bit apprehensive. I had promised her, we would stick together and muddle along. We needn’t have worried – she loved it!! Coasteering gave us a mixture of jumping, swimming through caves, climbing, scrambling and a bit of nature along the way. Henry loved it, leading the way off every jump, into every cave!! We headed north building confidence and technique. Then, after a quick walk up the Coastal Path, we reached some impressive cliffs – where the big jumps happened! Johnny highlighted the jump technique – so important when going “big” and off we went. Henry led the way off the 25 ft jump! Eliza watched a few and announced she was ready….but Mummy you must go first – no pressure! I can tell you 25ft is high whether you are jumping off or waiting in the water to ensure Eliza was swimming back to the exit point where Becky was waiting to see us safely back up the cliffs! This was an awesome thing to do as a family – we all loved it and I have to say, I am just a little bit proud of the kids! Well worth all those swimming lessons!
KA Adventures also hire equipment and provide Paddle Boarding lessons, Kite Surfing and Surfing lessons (at Bamburgh). We also did the paddle boarding – again beautifully organised with good equipment. They make it so fun with games to start. By the end of the session, we could all paddle standing up – a new skill learnt! Eliza found paddling a bit tough – not a problem, instructor Toby put a line on her board and she followed along behind. She was very happy and also managed to stand! Plus it allowed us to enjoy it. Henry was very happy and pleased with himself that he managed to stand. What a lovely family-friendly company who make their activities so much fun for all ages.
Bait serves awesome food and coffee in the car park at Beadnell. Crabbie Chips, Bamburgh Bangers and Kipper & Egg Sandwiches were all much enjoyed!
We loved playing on the beach….cricket, flying kites, body boarding, rock pooling (just north of the harbour and we even spotted dolphins. The rock pooling was awesome – 3 different species of crab and a lobster!
We did have one trip inland to Alnwick Castle. All tickets are pre booked for a time slot. On arrival we went straight to the broomstick flying to book in and then to the Dragon Quest. We had time for a coffee and a chat with the stall holders – a scribe and a broomstick repairer! All happy to answer all the questions Henry threw at them! Dragon Quest is an audio visual sensory adventure – be careful not to wake the dragon…Henry loved it, Eliza found it a bit scary. There is so much to see for all ages and well organised with lots of stewards on hand to answer questions. There was a magic show with Dumbledore, Malfoy and Hermione which the kids really enjoyed. Broomstick flying was lots of fun! You can take a picnic or enjoy their food. Alnwick Gardens is a separate attraction with separate entry, this is one for us next time!
We will certainly be back after a wonderful time! Loved our staycation in Northumberland
