Today I have started putting some stones out! Hope you all find them. Please feel free to keep or re-hide then do the same with your own. Take a photo and post on Facebook, Instagram (@ryedalemumbler) or Twitter (@ryedalemumbler). The children that painted them love to see the photos of others finding them.
Don’t forget to write on the back of your stones where to post a picture. I put, “Keep / Rehide. Please post my picture on Facebook Ryedale Mumbler Chat Group #ryedalemumbler ” You may also want to include your initials so people know who painted your stone.
When hiding stones, please make sure you are hiding in a safe area where they won’t affect lawn mowers. Make sure they won’t fall on others, and if you wish to hide inside a business, please make sure to ask permission first.
When searching for rocks, be mindful of private property and trespassing.
Stones or rocks can be bought from Garden Centres if you are struggling to find any. I am painting mine with an old tester pot to make them white and then going from there. Either painting with normal children’s paints or using Sharpo pens (work well and don’t have to wait for them to dry) then vanishing or spraying with Acrylic Varnish (available from Boyes, Yates and The Yorkshire Clothing Company).
Hope you enjoy this free activity!
