Join us for a day of literary delights with a tree theme. Our events are included with standard admission to the Arboretum. www.yorkshirearboretum.org.
Here’s a pick of what the children may like but there is more for the adults.
Cat Weatherill – Barkbelly and Snowbone
Imagine an ancient race of wooden people, born from wooden eggs, super-strong and carrying a magical healing sap in their veins … Welcome to the world of Ashenpeakers!
Over five sessions, hear the adventures unfold… Meet Barkbelly, on the run and trying to find his place in a bewildering world. Meet Snowbone, leading the fight against the slavery of her people.
Pirates, prophecies, exploding volcanoes, factory fires, cannibals, circus dreams, flying machines and enormous hedgehogs – they’re all here, in two wildly imaginative best-selling books by Cat Weatherill.
Cat is a performance storyteller, performing at festivals around the world. She is also an author, with books translated into eleven languages.
‘Cat Weatherill is one of our great storytellers, vivacious and inventive. She brings all her consummate skill to the creation of this magical book’ Michael Morpurgo on Barkbelly
‘Barkbelly falls squarely in the glorious category’ The Independent
Cat will be giving four 15 minutes storytelling performances at 11.00, 12.30, 2.15 and 3.45.
Karin Celestine – Honey for Tea
Karin Celestine lives in a small house in Monmouth, Wales. In her garden there is a shed and in that shed is another world. The world of Celestine and the Hare. It is a world where weasels are ruled by King Norty, pandas ride space hoppers and bears read stories to each other. It is a place that makes people smile and where kindness is the order of the day. All are welcome.
Karin will be reading Honey for Tea followed by a simple craft activity 11.30 and 2.45.
Included with standard admission to the Yorkshire Arboretum.
At 1.00 Karin will be reading a different story – Small Finds a Home followed by an opportunity to try your hand at stick weaving. Spaces for this activity are limited so please reserve your place for £1.50 to avoid disappointment.
A special mention must also go to local Daniela Nunnari. At 12.00 and 4.00 Daniela will be reading her poetry out in the open (weather permitting!) and between 1.15 and 2.00 she will lead a drop-in poetry workshop suitable for all ages.
