I am an experienced Hypnotherapist and when I meet someone new, they are generally very interested in my work and what I do. I love what I do and Hypnotherapy is a big part of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am extremely lucky as put simply I get to help people make changes more easily than they ever thought possible. From the lifelong smoker who becomes smoke free, the young person overcoming a phobia for good, to the mum-to be preparing for her first birth with all the additional confidence, and skills a Hypnobirthing course brings.
I find Hypnotherapy is still not as widespread and well understood and therefore used as much as it might be. I see part of my role is re-addressing that balance, whether in my Hypnosis room, a true ‘changing room’; or here on social media. Hypnotherapy is safe and effective for the overwhelming majority, so the potential is infinite. So how exactly does it work and how does it help so many people with such a wide variety of issues?
Though we don’t know everything about the mind yet, it is generally accepted that we have two minds. The conscious, rational, thinking, decisive brain and the subconscious mind which is larger, more complex and where all our memories are stored. Our habitual behaviour patterns, and our emotions and instincts emerge from this subconscious mind Simply the subconscious mind is a huge powerhouse that has the major influence over us and what we do whether we like it or not. When the conscious and subconscious are in conflict, the subconscious will ‘win’. Everyone has habits which they don’t even think about, the way you lock up when you leave the house or your morning routine. You don’t have to think about them, they just ‘happen’. This is your subconscious mind working beautifully.
The downside of this are the habits that we know aren’t doing us any good, like eating too much junk food, excessive gambling or smoking are much harder to stop on your own. Your subconscious drives them. As a Hypnotherapist I help clients access their subconscious mind by taking the client into a safe, deep relaxation, trance state we call Hypnosis and then through a variety of safe tools including suggestions, affirmations, visualisation, and occasionally regression to make the changes the client desires. Hypnosis is a very safe, and enjoyable state for the vast majority of people.
So who comes to see me? My clients are people from all walks of life and range in age from 85 to those who are yet to be born. I’m convinced the unborn babies benefit as much from Hypnobirthing as their mums and dads! I love working with children and young people as I find they are very open and receptive to change and I’m aware we really are ‘nipping problems in the bud’ and enabling them to become free of a problem which may otherwise have stuck with them for decades to come.
I have a wonderfully quiet, purpose built Hypnotherapy room as a separate building at my home looking out on a beautiful field.
