During the summer school holidays there’s loads of see and do at the grand and glorious estate of Temple Newsam. There’s plenty of outdoor activities from bat walks to plant potting in the Walled Garden and loads of indoor fun for drizzly days or a little escape from the summer sun. Don’t forget to check out the many play bays located throughout Temple Newsam House. There’s plenty of summertime trails to get involved with and special event days too!

From 22 July – 13 August enjoy self-led mask making. From 15 August – 3 September use recycled materials to sculpt your very own 3D creature. All craft activities are included with general admission to the house.
Plant Potting
1 Aug, 1-3pm
On 1 August celebrate Yorkshire Day by potting up a Coleus plant from the National collection to take away and enjoy at home.
This is a free event hosted in the Walled Garden. No need to book ahead, just drop-in!
Creature Coding
2,16 & 30 Aug, 1.30-3.30pm
Enjoy a fun packed digital day out with specialist staff, combining crafts and coding to create a creature that can roar, blink and even send a message!

Bat Walk
5 Aug, 6-10pm
Head to Temple Newsam on Saturday 5 August for a natural history talk with refreshments. The talk will be followed by a quiz and videos and then a guided evening walk through the historic estate with bat detectors. The walk last for approximately 2 miles and a variety of roosting and feeding habitats will be covered. In the past about 5 species of bat have been encountered, engaging in a variety of natural behaviours!

Clay Creatures
9 & 23 August, 1.30-3.30pm
Take a tour through a wing of the house for some animal inspiration, plan your design and mould your very own 3D clay creature to take away and display at home!

Creatures Up Close
10, 17, 24 & 31 Aug, 12.30-4pm
As part of a summer celebration of All Creatures Great and Small meet ‘Creatures up Close’ on selected Thursdays throughout the school holidays.
Head to the Dining Room between 12.30-4pm to meet a variety of animals and chat to the expert staff from Leeds City College.
This activity is included with general admission to the house.
