This week, Be Amazing Arts are bringing the beautiful tale of The Secret Garden to life with a promenade performance in the incredible grounds of Birdsall House. This afternoon, we were lucky enough to enjoy this wonderful play.
Follow Mary Lennox as she defiantly explores her new home Misselthwaite Manor in Yorkshire, finding her cousin, new friends and the most beautiful Secret Garden on the way.

The cast is made up of two professional actors and some amazing younger children, lots of them making their theatre debut! They were absolutely fantastic. They articulated so well and you could hear every word. As you walked about the beautiful gardens of Birdsall round with the rhododendrons in full bloom, it felt like you were exploring Misselthwaite Manor with Mary and the rest of cast, dressed in realistic period costumes.
The production lasted 90 minutes, both Eliza and Henry thoroughly enjoyed it. There is enough movement to ensure you don’t get cold. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy this fantastic setting. The terrain is level and easy walking. Afterwards, we enjoyed a drink and cake on the terrace (they take cash or card). In addition, there is a pop-up shop by Kemps General Store & Books, selling copies of ‘The Secret Garden’ as well as other themed books and gifts.
There are toilets available in the house.
It certainly was a beautiful story in a perfect setting and we can highly recommend it. It was so refreshing to experience a promenade performance in such a breathtaking place.
