Northumberland

Bamburgh in Northumberland, was great, lovely beaches, lots of castles to explore including Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle (as seen in Harry Potter) which is great for kids, boat trip to see Farne Islands and their inhabitants, including 37,000 pairs of puffins. Chillingham Cattle are worth a visit as well.

“We had a great week, we stayed in Bamburgh at a cottage overlooking the castle. We went to Bamburgh beach every day, which is beautiful. We visited Alnwick Castle, where my boys played Quidditch and Alnwick Gardens which the boys loved exploring especially the tour of the poison garden, some water features which kids can play with but you would need a change of clothes with you!

We visited Holy Island after checking the tide times and working out when we were safe to cross the causeway! We went on a boat trip to the Farne Islands where we saw puffins and other sea birds and seals. The boys really enjoyed that. We explored Chillingham Castle which is not for the faint hearted but my boys loved it! We then visited Cragside on our way home which had gorgeous gardens and a great play area for the boys to run off energy.”

A lovely place to visit with children, lots to do and see for all the family.
